The Moving
Toy Mechanisms website has been developed to assist in the learning of
mechanisms within Design and Technology at Keystage 2 of the National
Curriculum. The site can be used to provide teaching support in a manner
which is both enjoyable and educational.
In Moving Toy Mechanisms children are encouraged to learn though interaction
with the characters. They have the opportunity to assist Ergo as he tries
to build machines which use different mechanisms to capture a small creature
called Critter.
Moving Toy Mechanisms is designed to provide pupils with a firm knowledge
of the different types of mechanisms, and an understanding of how they
can be used to good effect. It presents information clearly in individual
sections (cams, gears, levers, and pulleys) and its structure allows pupils
to navigate freely between the sections.
The site has been created with the kind cooperation of staff and pupils
at Redhill Primary School in Staffordshire, and under the direction and
guidance of Dr. Melissa Lee Price at Staffordshire University.
