Part 1

Indicative content including a summary for the handbook

This module is designed to introduce you to current technology innovations and issues. As we rapidly move into a digital world, paradigm shifts are impacting both our social and economic structure. This module will introduce you to issues such as: technology use in education, copyright concerns in a digital age, social and economic access to technology, privacy, and self identity in a digital environment.
In completing the assigned projects you will demonstrate how these issues affect the solution to the brief. You will also initiate your potential project proposal for the Multimedia Authoring module in the light of issues highlighted during this module.

These learning strategies will occupy your time


The learning activity centers on researching, making and editing a multimedia artifact that will encompass one or more of the issues studied in the semester.
Undertaking research of the impacts of new technologies
Undertake pre-production planning and research related to the brief
Design multimedia product working with others
Undertake post-production planning and design
Attending and participating in workshops and seminars covering
  • Skills in graphic design for multimedia
  • Skills in multimedia design
  • Advanced skills in researching a topic
Undertaking directed theoretical study on social and economic issues in self managed research & in seminars on professional multimedia practices and current professional work. You are expected to reflect on existing examples of multimedia design, and incorporate best practice in your work

Participation in initial and interim group tutorials/crits and interim presentations of Design Proposals to monitor your personal progress and understanding.


On completion, you should be able to demonstrate these learning outcomes

AYou should be competent in researching an issue that relates to the incorporation of new technologies into the modern social and economic structure

B You should be competent in skills for graphic production for multimedia.

C Have a practical experience and initial understanding of how to create a meaningful multimedia project, taking into account current issues
(Visual analysis; Creative synthesis)

D You should be competent in making and using flowcharts and storyboards
(Communication)

  • Evaluation of a multimedia artifact that demonstrates how one or more issues concerning the integration of new technologies is affecting the social and or economic structure of modern society. (A)(C)
  • Evaluation of your documentation, including visuals and content research storyboards, scripts etc. (B)(C)
  • Evaluation of your project proposal for development in the Multimedia Authoring module. (A)(B)(C)(D)

To achieve a pass grade

The body of work must demonstrate the
identification of an issue related to the integration of new technology into the culture; use of pre- and post- production documentation; proper use of school facilities for content research and practical research. Involvement in team output and learning should be evident.

To achieve a distinction

Your submission will contain evidence of how current communication issues affect a multimedia solution to the set brief and address the fundamentals of the problem. The work must address a problem related to new technologies. The work should identify the specific characteristics of multimedia and uses them in an appropriate way which reflect the message(s) to be communicated. Detailed and effective use of pre- and post- production documentation. Extensive and proper use of school facilities for content research and practical research. Key support of team activities
