Malcolm Crawford Malcolm Crawford - is the 'e-champion' for Newcastle Borough Council,. All Councils are required to develop a full range of electronic services to improve the way citizens can get information about their area and request government services (e.g, applying for free school meals, making a planning
application, booking a squash court online).. Malcolm is responsible for
championing this within the Council, working with other community and public sector organisations. His background is accountancy.

Marnie Allen

Marnie Dainty - ICT Training Officer at Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, a local authority with around 400 computer users of varying ability from super-user
to where's-the-ANY-key? novices. She is responsible for design and delivery of
instructor-led courses and e-learning for staff and councillors.

I've been in IT since output looked like motheaten bus-ticket and screen display came in lightbulbs. Thoroughly enjoying the e-revolution.

Exercises

Find your local government's web site. Do they have one? If so, see if you can find the following information:

  1. What is going on in your neighbourhood, are current activities listed? Is the information current or is it out of date.
  2. Find out about recycling in your area, where can you go to recycle, is there curbside pickup? If so, what kinds of goods can be picked up there.
  3. Find out what your local government is planning for electronic government

Use this exercise in your discussion.
