Current Teaching
1998-current Reader in Design, Staffordshire University, Stoke on Trent, UK
promoted from Senior Lecturer in 2000.

Currently act as 'Course Leader' for the MA in Interactive Multimedia. The MA at Stafforshire University takes one year for full time students and two years for part time students. It takes an integrated approach whereby a student is encouraged to focus on an idea in the first semester; refine and narrow it in the second semester; then produce the project in the third semester (summer). Also supervise Ph.D. students working in the area of multimedia.

Classes: Technological Innovations (MA - core) is the first class students take on the MA in Interactive Multimedia. It introduces them to the broad range of issues associated with digital media and has been taught online for five years. It served as a model for moving the entire MA into online delivery for part time students.

Multimedia Authoring (MA - core) is a class where students write scripts, concept documents, function specifications, cost benefit analysis, and node maps for their proposed MA project. They then 'pitch' the idea to a group of assessors acting as potential 'clients'. If the idea gets 'client' approval the student is allowed to proceed to produce the project for the final MA project.

MA Project Supervision (MA - core) is a one to one supervision of a student as s/he works through the final project. As well as completing an artefact, each student is also required to complete a five chapter thesis to support the work. The research method used can be either quantative or qualative, but must be clearly defined and exectued in the documentation and supported by the artefact.

Hypermedia (Undergraduate Final year - Core)
This class focuses on the creation of educational multimedia. Each student researches and creates a web based project that supports an element of the United Kingdom's National Curriculum. In addition to the project, students also write a five chapter thesis to accompany the project. During the past five years projects from this class have won over fifty international student awards (Broadcast Education Association, Association for Educational Communications Technology, Europrix, Mando, Siggraph, MECON, British Interactive Multimedia, Learning on Screen).

Route Project Supervision (Undergraduate Final year - core)
Each student works on a capping project for an entire year. S/he gets an individual tutorial once a week to ensure the project is proceeding smoothly. Students also produce a five chapter thesis to support the project. Students are encouraged to choose a project that stretches them and has a strong element of research attached. Some current projects are focused on: Interactive Television; Wireless Technologies; 3-D gaming; convergent DVD media. In 2003 two supervised projects won Europrix awards - Mobile and iTV.
