THE NATIONAL CURRICULUM

This website has been specifically designed to work in support of the Year 3 English Curriculum for school pupils studying the National Curriculum of England and Wales.

The following points are based on the targets set in the National Literacy Strategy document for Year 3 pupils, published by the Department for Education and Employment.

After using this website children should understand the basic conventions of speech punctuation through:
  • identifying speech marks in reading;
  • beginning to use speech marks in their own writing;
  • using capital letters to mark the start of direct speech;
  • using the term 'speech marks';
Children should also have increased awareness of myths, legends and fables.
